Accessibility accommodations for family and guests

The University is committed to full access and reasonable accommodations for all who attend commencement events. Approximately 50,00 guests attend the ceremony and vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be heavy around Ohio Stadium.

IMPORTANT:

Construction on Cannon Drive will prevent road access to Ohio Stadium from John Herrick Drive (from the west side of Cannon Drive) and King Avenue. Please take this into consideration when planning your route to campus on commencement day.

Parking

Disability parking is available in the East Stadium lot, adjacent to Ohio Stadium, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once this lot fills, additional ADA parking will be available at the North St. John Arena Lot along Lane Avenue. A complimentary ADA accessible shuttle runs from that lot to Gates 20/22. A permanent or temporary Ohio or other state-issued Disability Placard is required to park in the disability lots. Police officers may validate ownership of the placard at any point. The East Stadium lot is accessed from Tuttle Park Place. Please plan to arrive early as reserved parking in not guaranteed.

Accessibility accommodations

Ohio Stadium provides easy access for guests with permanent or temporary disabilities. Seating for those guests is located at entry level throughout the stadium or in upper level locations that can be accessed by using an elevator. Guests in a wheelchair, or having limited mobility, are permitted in these disability seating areas. If possible, please limit to one companion so we can accommodate everyone.

On commencement day, guests needing wheelchair or limited mobility accommodations should locate one of the Guest Services Stations in the main concourse - near Section 14 on the Stadium's east side or Section 15 on the Stadium's west side. Event staff will be available to distribute access passes to guests at these designated stations. No prior arrangements are necessary, but, on commencement day, guests must first go to one of the stations to receive access passes for entry into these designated areas.

Wheelchair service

Ohio Stadium offers a limited wheelchair service on Commencement Day. Upon entry through a stadium gate, please alert a Redcoat usher that you need wheelchair transportation to a seating area. A Redcoat usher will pick you up and drop you off to seats. Following the ceremony, you can request a wheelchair escort back to the gates. Guests are not permitted to remain in the wheelchairs, nor are staff permitted to pickup guests in the parking lots. Ohio Stadium does not offer a wheelchair rental service.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation

An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter will be present during the ceremony. Seating for guests who would like interpretation services will be in section 16A.

On commencement day, guests who would like interpreting services should go to the station in the main concourse near Section 14 on the Stadium's east side. Event staff will be available to distribute reserved passes. No prior arrangements are necessary, but, on commencement day, guests must first go to the station to receive access passes for entry into this designated area.

Live captioning of the ceremony will also be available on the south stadium scoreboard, which can be viewed from seating areas on the east and west sides of Ohio Stadium.

Elevator locations

Elevators are located in the following areas of Ohio Stadium:

  • Four elevators are located on the west side of the stadium between gates 17-23 which provide access to the Club levels and to seating on D deck.
  • Two elevators are located near section 7 that access B and C decks.
  • Two elevators are located near section 10 that access B and C decks.

Any guest may use the elevators to access the decks they need. No special pass is required in order to use these public elevators.

No bag policy

No bags of any kind are permitted into Ohio Stadium. Guests entering with medical, dietary, or childcare needs must enter through the Steinbrenner Band Center Entrance (glass doors between Gates 10 and 12) or at the Press Entrance (glass doors between the Huntington Club and Gate 23) to have their items inspected - one bag will be permitted for your needs. All guests will pass through a metal detector upon entry to Ohio Stadium. No written proof of medical need is required - you just need to declare the need at one of the designated gates.

Mobility devices

Mobility devices, including but not limited to canes, crutches, walkers, rollators, wheelchairs, scooters, etc. are permitted into Ohio Stadium. Guests may enter through any gate with a mobility device. Storage of larger devices in the seating stands (under your seat) may be difficult. If you are sitting in conventional seats and need to store a mobility device, please fee free to stop by a first aid room - the Red Cross volunteers generally have room to store walkers and wheelchairs during the ceremony. Please make sure to mark your item with your name and phone number on it as Ohio State and the American Red Cross are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.
